Regulatory Update: Moratorium on High-Rise Construction
The Government of Belize has implemented a six-month moratorium on approvals for mid-rise and high-rise developments in key coastal communities: Caye Caulker Village, Hopkins Village, Placencia Peninsula, and Sittee River Village.
This measured pause supports comprehensive public consultations, technical assessments, and the rollout of a modernized National Building Code (based on International Code Council standards). The goal is enhanced public safety, improved compliance, and stronger long-term regulatory frameworks.
